Star Battle is one of the most elegant logic puzzles to emerge in recent years. You are given a grid divided into irregular regions. Your task is to place exactly two stars in each row, each column, and each region, with one additional constraint: no two stars may touch, not even diagonally.
The diagonal constraint is what makes Star Battle special. It means every star creates a 3x3 exclusion zone around itself (with the star at the center). This spatial element adds a layer of geometric reasoning on top of the counting logic.
The solving techniques are beautiful in their simplicity. If a region spans only two cells in a row, those two cells must contain the stars for that region — which eliminates stars from the rest of those rows. If a region is completely contained within two columns, the stars in those columns must come from outside the region.

How to play Star Battle
- Place two stars per line. Each row and each column must contain exactly two stars.
- Place two stars per region. Each outlined region must also contain exactly two stars.
- No touching stars. No two stars may be adjacent horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Each star needs its own space.
- Use region constraints. If a region spans only a few cells, those cells are forced. Use this to eliminate possibilities in rows and columns.
- Earn Retro Coins. Complete puzzles to score points based on size and solving time. Faster solutions earn more Retro Coins.
