Bubble Bobble is the beloved 1986 Taito arcade game that turned bubble-blowing into an art form. You control a small dragon named Bub, trapping enemies in bubbles and then popping them for points.
The gameplay loop is elegant: blow a bubble to trap an enemy, then touch the bubble to pop it. Popped enemies turn into bonus items — fruit, vegetables, and power-ups. The faster you pop a bubble after trapping an enemy, the more points you earn.
Each level is a single screen with platforms and walls. Enemies spawn from the top and bottom, getting faster and more aggressive as you progress. Special enemies drop special items when defeated, including letters that spell EXTEND for an extra life.
Our RetroPlayNow version captures the cheerful pace and strategic bubble-trapping of the original, with colorful sprites and catchy gameplay. Every enemy popped earns Retro Coins.
How to play Bubble Bobble
- Blow bubbles. Press fire to blow a bubble. If it hits an enemy, the enemy is trapped inside.
- Pop bubbles. Touch a trapped enemy's bubble to pop it. The enemy turns into bonus items.
- Collect items. Popped enemies drop fruit and vegetables for points. Collect them before they fall.
- Spell EXTEND. Collect letters from special enemies to spell EXTEND and earn an extra life.
- Earn Retro Coins. Score points by popping enemies and collecting items. More points mean more Retro Coins.
