Shikaku, also known as Rectangles, is a puzzle of geometric division. A grid contains scattered numbers. Your task is to divide the entire grid into rectangles (and squares) such that each rectangle contains exactly one number, and the area of that rectangle (its width times height) equals that number.<\/p>\n

The puzzle begins with simple deductions. A 4 in a corner can only form a 1×4 or 2×2 or 4×1 rectangle. A prime number like 7 can only form a 1×7 or 7×1 rectangle \u2014 it cannot be a square. A 1 is always a 1×1 square by itself.<\/p>\n

As the grid fills, the spatial reasoning deepens. Each rectangle you place constrains its neighbors. A 6 might be 2×3 or 3×2 or 1×6 \u2014 but only one of those shapes will fit without overlapping other rectangles or leaving isolated cells that cannot form valid rectangles.<\/p>\n
