Missile Command is the legendary 1980 Atari arcade game that defined the defense genre. Enemy missiles rain down from the sky, and you must protect six cities by launching counter-missiles that explode into destructive blasts.
The controls are simple but the strategy is deep. Move a crosshair across the sky and fire counter-missiles that explode at the target point. The explosion radius destroys any enemy missile within range, creating chain reactions that can clear the screen.
Each wave brings more missiles, faster targets, and smart missiles that try to dodge your explosions. You have limited ammo per wave, so every shot counts. The best players learn to anticipate missile trajectories, group targets for chain reactions, and prioritize the cities that are most at risk.

How to play Missile Command
- Move the crosshair. Move your crosshair across the sky to aim at where enemy missiles will be.
- Launch counter-missiles. Click or tap to fire a counter-missile that explodes at the target point, destroying missiles within its blast radius.
- Chain explosions. Detonate counter-missiles near groups of enemy missiles for chain reactions that clear the screen.
- Protect your cities. You have six cities to defend. Lose them all and the game ends. Prioritize cities under heaviest attack.
- Earn Retro Coins. Score points by destroying missiles and surviving waves. More points mean more Retro Coins.
