Checkers — also known as Draughts or Dama — is the timeless 8×8 strategy duel played for centuries. Twelve pieces per side, dark squares only, one simple goal: capture them all or block your opponent.
Our version follows American Checkers rules: men move one diagonal forward, kings move one diagonal any direction, captures are mandatory and multi-jumps must be completed, and a man crowns to king on the last rank. You play the light pieces moving upward against a smart AI that thinks 4 moves ahead.
Choose Easy, Medium or Hard, get instant move hints, undo a misclick, and race the clock. Win by capturing all enemy pieces or leaving the AI with no legal moves. Every win earns Retro Coins and a higher best score. Pure tactics, no luck — perfect for quick matches or long, thoughtful battles.
How to play Checkers
- Set up and goal. 12 light pieces vs 12 dark on dark squares. Capture all enemy pieces or block them to win.
- Move your men. Men move one diagonal forward. Kings move one diagonal any direction. Tap a piece to see its legal moves.
- Captures are mandatory. If a capture is available you must take it. Jump over an adjacent enemy to the empty square beyond. Chain multiple jumps in one turn.
- Crown to king. Reach the far rank and your man becomes a king, gaining backward moves and greater power.
- Win smart. Plan two moves ahead, force captures, and control the center. Win faster for a higher score and more Retro Coins.

How do you play Checkers?
Move diagonally on dark squares. Capture by jumping over an enemy to the empty square beyond. Captures are mandatory and you must complete multi-jumps. First to capture all or block the opponent wins.
What is a king in Checkers?
A man that reaches the far rank crowns to king. Kings move one diagonal any direction (forward or backward), while men only move forward.
Do I have to capture?
Yes — if any capture is available anywhere on the board, you must play a capturing move. The game highlights only legal captures in that case.
What are the difficulty levels?
Easy looks 2 moves ahead, Medium 3 and Hard 4 with a stronger evaluation. Harder AI defends better and finds longer capture chains.
Can I undo a move?
Yes, use Undo to step back one ply. You can also get a hint (star) that briefly highlights a strong capture or move.
