BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is the firmware stored in a console’s hardware. Some systems, like the PS1, PSP, Sega CD and many arcade boards, need their BIOS loaded by an emulator to boot games. BIOS files are copyrighted and should be dumped from hardware you own. Most 8-bit and 16-bit consoles do not need them.
