Retro Frog is a love letter to the golden age of river-and-highway arcade games, where one small frog faces the busiest road and the wildest river in gaming history. The goal is simple to say and brutal to do: cross from the bottom of the screen to the top, one hop at a time.
The first stretch is a four-lane highway. Cars, trucks and racers zoom across at different speeds and directions, and a single touch sends you back to the start with one life less. Time your hops between the gaps — hesitation is just as deadly as rushing.
Then comes the river. Floating logs drift across three lanes, and your frog must ride them to keep from drowning. Step onto a log and it carries you sideways while you hop forward; miss a log and the water takes you. The logs move at different speeds, so the river demands its own rhythm.
At the top, five homes wait. Fill each one with a frog to secure the points — but every lane you cross makes the traffic and logs a little faster. Clear all five homes to finish the round and collect the big bonus.
Your score grows with every forward hop, every safe landing and every home you reach. When your lives run out or the clock does, your score is submitted to the RetroPlayNow leaderboard, where every 100 points converts into a Retro Coin.
How to play Retro Frog
- Hop the frog. Use the arrow keys or W/A/S/D to hop one cell at a time — up, down, left or right. Each press is one hop.
- Cross the highway. Four lanes of traffic move at different speeds and directions. Wait for a gap, then hop across. Any touch with a vehicle costs a life.
- Ride the logs. In the river, hop onto a floating log to stay afloat. Logs carry you sideways, so plan your next hop while you drift.
- Do not fall in the water. If you hop into the river without a log underneath, you drown and lose a life. Move with the logs, never against them.
- Fill the homes for the bonus. Reach the 5 homes at the top of the screen. Fill all five to finish the round with a big bonus — and a bigger Retro Coin payout.
