Minesweeper is one of the most famous logic puzzles ever shipped with a computer. The rules are elegant: a 9x9 grid hides 10 mines, and every cell you open reveals a number telling you how many mines touch that cell. Your job is to deduce where the mines are, flag them, and open every safe cell without ever clicking a bomb.
The numbers are the key. A cell showing 1 touches exactly one mine, a cell showing 3 touches three. When all the safe cells around a number have been opened, the remaining hidden neighbors are guaranteed mines — flag them. When the flags around a number match its value, every other neighbor is safe to open in bulk.
This RetroPlayNow version keeps the classic rules with a pixel-retro look. The first click is always safe: the mines are placed after you open your first cell, so every game starts fairly. Right-click (or long-press on mobile) places a flag, and the counter tells you how many mines are still unaccounted for.
Your score rewards both progress and speed: every safe cell you open is worth 10 points, and clearing the whole field quickly adds a bonus of up to 500 points. Open all 71 safe cells and the field is yours — every 100 points converts into a Retro Coin for your arcade wallet.
How to play Minesweeper
- Open a cell. Click or tap any cell to open it. The number inside tells you how many mines touch that cell. The first click is always safe.
- Read the numbers. A 1 means one of the 8 surrounding cells is a mine, a 2 means two, and so on. Use the numbers to deduce where the bombs are hiding.
- Flag the mines. Right-click a cell (or long-press on mobile) to plant a flag where you suspect a mine. The mine counter tracks how many are still hidden.
- Clear safe areas fast. When a cell's neighbors are all flagged, open the remaining neighbors in bulk. Empty areas flood open automatically, revealing large safe zones.
- Win the field for the bonus. Open every safe cell without hitting a mine to clear the board. Each cell is worth 10 points, plus a speed bonus of up to 500 points — and the score converts to Retro Coins.
